How to use the Diffusion Index Tool 

Our diffusion filters and materials soften and spread a light beam, reducing the contrast ratio between highlight and shadow areas.  The Diffusion Index tool is based on empirical data so that photographers, cinematographers and lighting designers can compare the diffusion effects of products across the LEE Filters range.  

As most diffusions are white (with the exception of colour frosts and cosmetic diffusions), you can see the effect by the shape of the beam, indicating how it will appear on a flat surface.  

Simply move the slider below to select the level of Diffusion you require. You can also search by the type of filter you need. Results will appear beneath the slider with the recommended products to meet your creative needs.

Diffusions
Diffusions are used to spread a projected beam of light over a subject. As the light is diffused over a larger area, shadows will be reduced, and some loss of light may be seen. The stronger the diffusion, the greater and more even the resultant spread of light will be. Diffusions can also be used to smooth out beam edges in tight spaces or when lighting cycloramas. Zircon Diffusions for LED
Our Zircon diffusion filters offer three different strengths of diffusion specifically designed for LEDs. The 180-micron base is ideal for use on panels and can be used close to the LED chips to blur the pixels.

Grid Cloths
Made of a waterproof, reinforced material that can be sewn or grommeted, Grid Cloth is ideal for attaching to large frames. Offering medium to dense diffusion, it creates the effect of a shadow less light source.

Perforated Diffusion
LEE’s Perforated Diffusions have been specifically designed to work in conjunction with Kino Flo fixtures. They produce a soft but directional source by allowing a combination of direct and diffused light to combine, lending a unique quality to the light.
